Its my birthday and I got a burnin' in my wallet. Was thinking of getting a new boat to celebrate and heard about the new marlin.

I would be using it on the Hudson River around NY Harbor around Manhattan for fishing and just plain paddling. The water has really strong tidal current alot of boat and barge traffic.

Is this a good boat for these conditions? I currently have a disco which will remain where it is on Long Island. How difficult are they to get. I think I would have to get one without trying it out.

I am 5'6 and about 160 and reasonably fit. Any other boats I should consider.

Many thanks!!!

The Marlin would be an excellent choice and will easily handle any of the conditions you run into.  Keep in mind the South African kayaks are designed for simply awful conditions and are used in what we would call storm conditions as a matter of course.

There is a noticeable difference between the Dorado and the Marlin (which is more like the Pelican) in weight.  I see the Dorado for the bigger guys and for those who just can't sleep at night for lack of center hatch access to an interior (heavy) fishbox.

You can do quite well without it.

For a nice review on the Marlin/Pelican:
