Went on the soon to become famous Kayak mothership trip over in Evergades city.
Met up at 6:30 a.m. with my Boss Bart who is also a kayak fisherman, his buddy Billy, an avid flyfisherman and two guys from Orlando, Larry and his buddy....sorry dude forgot your name.Capt Charles Wright pulls up and gets us loaded up.
Launched out of Glades Haven and headed into the backcoutry. Capt. Wright has a 27 foot carolina skiff loaded with 6 Tarpon 120's up front. and enough space to comortably hold 5 anglers plus gear.
Will not say where we went exactly but they were places it would take a week to kayak to.
Launched our boats and headed into a creek that would eventually break up into 3 lakes. Jumped a nice snook at the beginning of the trip and lost him. unfortunately the weather god was not helping much that day...it was blowing 25 knots at least. This put a wrench in the fishing.
However it was a great day with great guys and beautiful country.
We packed up and headed to another location....got skunked there...and tried one last spot...a beautiful key with sandy beaches and hard bottom. There was bait fishing busting and that was a great sign...launched and in a little while hooked up with some small jacks. I was fishing by Chef Bart when he hooked up a nice flounder. Then he picked up a Trout. Finally i hook up and have a nice fish on...taking a lot of drag and giving me a good fight. A bluefish! I am all excited and yell over to Bart...he looks to be busy rerigging...he calls over and says hes in trouble.
Decided to get a treble hook lodged in his finger....ughhh. Capt brings the boat over and is able to give him first aid and get the hook out. Nice job Capt.
We finish up...load up the kayaks and head back to the dock.
With the right conditions ...this is a fabulous place to fish and a unique experience. Capt Chuck is a class act and did everything he could to get us into fish.
I highly recommend this trip to anyone who loves kayak fishing, the Everglades, and Peace and quiet.
