I tried fishing out of Everglades City again last week, just a few catfish for the effort. I tried to time it to drift out with the falling tide, only to discover that even though you launch at the Barron River, it's the Indian Key tide table that counts. I also got a late start and essentially got into Indian Key channel at peak low tide, leading to upstream paddling. With about 1/2 mile of the channel left to traverse, the weather got overly blustery so I was forced to head back in. We did see a couple of dolphin and a flock of spoonbills.

For those who haven't headed west lately, the park service is actually developing a Turner River launch spot with a formal put-in on the northwest corner of the bridge. More importantly, there will be a small parking lot. I hope it's ready for winter.
