Frank, good idea but I'm using the ghetto yak rak, my soft surf-board racks, the straps run through the car, doors open, tighten them down, then close the doors. Works great on dry days.
I'm going to try to soak the straps in rope, dip-it whip-it or electrical liquid lecttrical tape.. been saying that for years but never seem to get to it, gotta take a day off from fishing.
fishhead, wish I could find a decent setup like yours that would stay on top of the civic and not cost an arm & leg, I'm on a tight budget with 2 kids in college.
A guy at the launch site had a yota-pirus 4dr with a Yakima setup similar to yours, with the J holders. When he lifted his yak and leaned it on the bar, the bar bent, then 1 of the J hooks flopped over, he appeared to need more help, so with RDS on 1 end, the owner in the middle, and myself on the other, the yak felt very heavy, we quickly realized his yak was half full of water... a new Tempo, far to much water to have leaked in through the hatch.. both RDS and my S-Pro's with hatches were bone dry inside.
I have an '01 Civic 2dr coupe, and cannot find a decent set of racks, for less than the cost of a yak. Tule site says no rack to fit your vehicle.
