Some of you may be aware it is turtle egg-laying season.  Two days ago Pompano Beach was clear.  Since then an amazing number of turtles have arrived and lumbered up the beach to lay eggs (which are protected).  At least 50 nests are now in place and marked, more the closer you get to the Pompano Pier (from the north).

At the same time big schools of bait are in.  Joined Kayak Willie last night and watched four large tarpon herding them up and down the beach.  One was caught by a guy using a surf rod and dead ballyhoo, bout a 40 pounder.

The poon were cruising the beach, often within 30 or 40 feet of shore.  Lotsa fun...

This is a bump to let you know that there is still significant bait on Pompano Beach (north of the pier) and LOTS of cruising tarpon, with a number of good catches.  This weekend should be a great one.

Highly recommended: first and last light, but daytime fishing works too...
