All of you who frequent the Keys know what I'm talking about.  Mediocre accomodations, mediocre food at mediocre places. But high prices.

Captive audience.  Even the gas deals are pretty much gone (you used to be able to save at least a dime a gallon in the Upper Keys. Well I'm very pleased to finally be able to (highly) recommend:

La Cuccina.

Italian Cuisine in a beautifully decorated and authentic Italian restaurant.  Great service from traditional white shirted waiters with long aprons.  Nice wall art and atmosphere.  Food served attractively and extremely well prepared and presented.

And the prices are reasonable.

No, there none of the Carribean Club boisterousness (though there is certainly a place for that) but a peaceful, pleasant and quality dining experience.

MM105 on US1, west side.  Trust me, you won't regret it...

We frequented the place and enjoyed it in its earlier incarnation as the Cracked Conch, and were dismayed when it went dark.  Another Mom & Pop gone under, we surmised, following many another restaurant, small motel, and fav roadside dive.

Then we saw it reemerge as La Cuccina -and thought, 'oh, well, another move upscale' (remember the Fish House?  It s humble beginnings?  Reasonable prices?  Excellentvalues..???)

Our friend Grayhawk lives down there, and we were happy to hear that he gave it a big thumbs up a couple months ago -he's an ex-urban  Italian, so that was a big plus, and he said the place was nice, as well.

Your review concurs.

Looks like we'll have to give it a try one of these days on our way back after we
