Hey Everybody,

FYI, I found some nice markers for coloring flies. When I learned to tie a few years ago Charlie Richter taught me a nice trick for Glades minnows and other flies. Just tie them using white craft fur and carry a couple of permanent markers with you to change the color if they're not hitting white. Makes tying very easy and gives you flexibility for "matching the hatch". Problem is I never got around to buying the expensive pantene (sp?) markers at $4 a pop. I did buy a variety pack of sharpies for $10 or so and got red, black, lime green, dark green, orange and a few other colors. Didn't have the nice olive & gold though that the others had. Well that changed yesterday with a trip to Wal-mart. Sharpie has new "earth tone" markers out. Five colors: olive, marigold, burgundy, plum and navy blue. They have them in fine and ultra fine in five packs, fines in the ultra 17 color assortment, and a 4 pack of dual tip (fine one side, ultra fine the other) pens. I picked up the 4 pack of dual tips which included olive, marigold, burgundy & navy blue. Figured plum wasn't all that necessary since it came with burgundy & I had purple already. I really wanted olive & marigold anyways. The 4 pack was about $6. Tried them on a white minnow and they look nice (on land). Haven't tried them in the water yet.

So there you go, you might have already known about this so it's nothing new. But if you didn't then it's worth a try and it's not too expensive.

Ken

ps - I also have a big assortment of 24 or so colored markers I found at the dollar store which includes lots of "earthy" colors. Haven't tried them out yet though. If they work they stand to be the best value out there. I'll report when I get a chance to try them out.

Hey Ken
Thanks for the tip on the Sharpies.I've used some of the Chart-pak markers on some flies, but they are kinda pricey.A lot of us learned that trick and a few others from the old man.

Btw.I was up there to see him and Rita at their new digs in Sebastian several weeks ago. They are doing well

You gotta get that minnow in the water Ken and see how it fishes.

Tight loops

That's good to hear Dave, thanks for the update. If you see him again tell him I said hi (the big guy from his bass pro classes).

Hoping to give the fly a try this Saturday at Whiskey Creek.
