|The transition from bass fishing to salt can be a challenge but you need to start by fishing for stupid fish first. When I first took my trton all fiberglass bass boat into the salt it was all about snook, not a stupid fish! Luckily a friend took me to some flats in Flamingo where the trout hang out. Now trout are dumb fish that will bite anything that moves. Also in the catagory of stupid fish I would include Jacks and Ladyfish. If you target these fish you will have all the action you want in your Kayak and will probably stumble into a snook or redfish. I like to use hookup jig heads with chartrueese or electric chicken plastic mullets for the trout. The chartuesse terror-eyze also work good. Both of these lures will also catch jacks and ladyfish. BTW: If you catch a ladyfish cout it into chunks put it under a popping cork behind your kayak and you will hook a snook or tarpon if they are in the area. That is why ladyfish is called Tarpon candy. Good Luck|
Good info Quirkster, I too have been having a hard time catching anything good. I have caught a catfish, small jack & a cuda. they were caught on a DOA shrimp, a 3/8 Wht. DOA jighead with a rootbeer gulp shrimp and a wht gulp shrimp. I have fished Little Munyon, Palm Beach ICW by Trump's House & Delray in the ICW. I think the Indian River in Jensen Beach has been going off well from reports with snook, redfish, trout & lady fish. Anyone want to go up there some weekend and give it a try, let me know.
