Well, I took the advice of Capn Jimbo and a few others and hit John Lloyd Park Saturday. I launched at the first ramp that leads to the ICW. Launching was much easier here than around Deerfield/Boca, less traffic. I headed southbound and paddled against the current to the bridge and took a right into some really nice mangrove trails. There were fish jumping all over the place and several folks fishing nearby. I spent about 3 hours trying every jig I own and was unable to land a fish. I finally caught a few little guys on a topwater plug, I don't even know what kind of fish they were. I tried using the Gulp shrimp, but was unsuccessful. I think I need a few more pointers, so here's a few questions.
How do rig the Gulp shrimp? I put the hook through the head and out the back, but the weight of the hook turned it belly up, unlike a real shrimp. When you add a weight, do you put it right next to the jig, or up the line a bit?
Does anyone have any luck with the twin tailed, lead head shrimp jig? I've fished the white one quite a bit, but had no luck.
Does anyone ever catch any fish mid-day, 11:00am-3:00pm?
I know very little about saltwater fishing, so how about sharing some of those secrets with a poor ole newbee!
