The reefs are really dying...

When?  Probably by midcentury.  Read this...

Quote
Stanford, CA — Carbon emissions from human activities are not just heating up the globe, they are changing the ocean’s chemistry. This could soon be fatal to coral reefs, which are havens for marine biodiversity and underpin the economies of many coastal communities. Scientists from the Carnegie Institution’s Department of Global Ecology have calculated that if current carbon dioxide emission trends continue, by mid-century 98% of present-day reef habitats will be bathed in water too acidic for reef growth. Among the first victims will be Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, the world’s largest organic structure.

Historic levels of CO2 were 280 ppm, are not 380 ppm.  We will soon approach 550 ppm.  At that level, all - I repeat ALL - reefs will die.  And long before that happens the ocean will become relatively barren.  Worst news:  we would have to reduce carbon emissions considerably farther than required to stop global warming.

It's no joke.  This is highly likely to occur within 45 years.  God help our children as I have little faith in our corporate financed politicians - Republicrat or Democratic - to do anything significant in any fashion remotely considered timely.
