Yet Another Xmas Yak-In!
Yup, it's that time of year again, and one thing Sue Sea, I and friends never miss is the Ft. Lauderdale Xmas Boat Parade. This is an amazing event, and we almost always enjoy it up close and personal, from our kayaks.
Date: Dec 12, 2007
Where: George English Park (Sunrise viewling location)
Time: 5:00 pm (parade starts 6:30, reaches our location bout 7:00)
This is truly an amazing event, we always have a blast. You can go simple or go crazy, your choice. We typically arrive early, decorate and light our kayaks (more later bout this), wear Santa hats - but you don't have to.
About 6:00 pm we paddle over to our viewing location and join the hundreds of boats anchored there. You will be treated to shoreside parties, live bands, music and lights everywhere. It is a spectacle.
The parade is spectacular, lasts about and hour and a half, and is truly unforgetable. From huge megayachts, sailboats, motorcraft, lifesaving skiffs, outrigger canoes.
Last, I can't emphasize enough the spectacle of this, especially from a manatee's eye view - the lighting, sound, music, performances are unmatched, and not just the megayachts. Some of the smaller boats - like the Kwansa boat last year - were amazing in the time, effort and expense these owners went to. Not to mention small craft including paddle craft that are merrily lighted as well.
Hey... I can't drag ya there, but I can assure you that everyone who did attend (last year I think 6) agreed that it was an amazing experience.
So.... be there or be square. Post your intention or PM or email me. Maybe we can put together some kind of pre/post party. I'll post directions and plans later...
