Beautiful morning in the No Motor Zone in Mosquito Lagoon last week. Started out with a gentle west wind. Capt
Jaspers was on the pole and me in the front of his canoe. Had on a 4" red sparkle seaducer and very early hit a big trout that unfortunately got off after a brief struggle.- great fun on a 6 wt
I them switched to Caroline's shrimpi shrimp and put 2 nice trout in the boat. By 9AM we switched gears. We went hunting Black Drum. Thanks
to some excellent poling and positing by Capt Jaspers, I
caught a 27lb. black drum on my 9wt T&T with a little Velcro crab
pattern.(Black on the bottom and olive on top, 1/32 barbell
weighted) What a great fight. Bob got in the water to net the brute.
We saw more singles and several groups of 3 or 4 (one group of 7) but
only had 3 or 4 legitimate shots. The fish were all running north and
very often as we would see them, they were already heading away or
quartering at an angle that made the casts very difficult. Off the
water before noon, great lunch with Bob and his wife, and back in
Altamonte Springs by two. BEATS WORKIN'
