Been having consistant luck fishing for bass in the New River just west of Markham park should anyone be so inclined.  The Outback has proved very adept at slowly moving up a weed line against the wind, casting a watermellon senko right against the weeds.  All seem to be in that 2 1/2 to 5lb. range and put up a good fight.  Pulled out a nice little snook from under the bridge also.  Hope to get back this weekend if anybody else is interested? Anybody else having luck with bass?

This points out a nice advantage of the Hobie, namely to be able to slowly cruise and cast at the same time...nice.

Hows the jet-ski traffic there on the weekend ?

Try taking that yak over the dyke and fishing the bombing range, I used to do that in the canoe, there are lots of big bass out there in the pockets and holes.
You may want to get a tall ple and orange flag for the airboat traffic.

So far I haven't really had any trouble with the jet-skis, in fact there have only been a few and they seem to be a bit differential to yakers.  I've been the only boat fishing the last two weeks.  My original intent going out there was to fish the bombing range - but it's been so nice on the river I haven't bothered.  Some day maybe - but I think it's about time to try for some snook and reds.

O.K. , O.K - depends on where you're coming from -after a year of living in L.A. anyone who doesn't actually shoot at you as they go by is considered polite. :p

Thing One,
You going out this weekend, I find myself with maybe a free day Sunday and was thinking of hitting some banks maybe I'll walk the Markham area.

You ever fish in the park ?

I go in the park, immediate left and park, walk through the woods to the road parallel to the north side of the canal, usually walk west to the dyke, cross over and fish the bombing area side.. guess I'll have to give the east direction a walk by.

Krash,
I haven't much luck in the park itself or in the New River canal as it passes the park,  but once the canal hits that bombing range heading west on the weedy side it's been a fish about every 15 minutes.  But as you know it's almost impossible to fish from the bank in that area.
There is a possibility I may get there on Sunday but I won't know till the last minute - I usually launch from the south ramp on the new river.  I seem to remember that SG wrote of catching some in the park itself, not sure.(Yellow kayak on a trailer - straw hat - that's me.)
