FISH -I FOUND THE DISCO A TAD TOO SMALL FOR ME
Went up to Jeff's open hacienda last year and gave the Disco a run on the lake. Like almost everyone sez, it's a fairly quick, stable, and a boat that's pretty easy to tote.
But I found it seemed a lot smaller on me -one of the really good things, IMHO -about the Disco -again for me -is that you as much wear as sit on the boat, akin to the S-Pro (& I assume, RTM's legal knock-off, the Tempo). I'm 6-0, 200+/-, and both boats are wet with me in them: the Disco drains well when under way, but puddles again when stopped, while the S-Pro keeps pretty much the same water along for the ride.
And the performance, while good, seemed somehow a tad sluggish to me. It may be that I had way too elevated expectations based upon rave reviews coupled with more recent experience in SINKs, but I wasn't as impressed with it as some. I found it a bit cramped, size-wise, it was surprisingly for me, annoyingly wet, and the performance wasn't quite the revelation from which I'd hoped to be truly enlightened with.
Nonetheless, it is a good boat at a good price. ANd you can get one from a pretty nice shop, as well...!
You rule out the best ones out there, the South African glass ones, so...
I'd still go with an S-Pro/Tempo. This model is a good fishing platform: it's way quicker (or, at the same speed, paddles more efficiently and therefore more easily) than the majority of wider boats, it's rocker allows it greater maneuverability than many others, but it's still long enough to track fairly decently, and it's stable as all get-out.
As for me, I'm currently still searching for a used Impex Currituck, NDK Explorer LV, or Nigel Foster Legend possibly in carbon/kevlar especially for the latter two, (tho' those of you who know me & my paddling figger it'll be a half-hour before I crack that one's case wiiiide open, LOL!). Came close a couple of times, but they were too far away and we've been too busy around the house for a road trip with holiday visitors coming in...
At any rate, get out to Okeeheelee this weekend and give a few of those boats on your list a side-by-side spin. Then let us know which you chose -choose? -to
