Jimbo, I was looking at the Phoenix 130 from Hurricane at Adveture Times in North Palm Beach this week. What is your take on this model & brand of kayak for offshore/inshore fishing. It came with 3 rod holders (2-Flush & 1-Scotty) for $889. It look like it would paddle nice & fast and its only 46Lbs.   :p

Thanks, Yak-Attack

There was once a series of posts bout the Phoenix 140 which was basicly a blatant rip of the actual Tarpon 140.  These boys had no shame at all, and as their sales rep said - we changed only enough to keep it legal.

So much for competition and morality. I went so far as to rent both the Tarpon and Phoenix just to see if the Phoenix was any different than the design they lifted.

It didn't.  It had all the faults of the Tarpon 140 and added a few of their own based on some minor mods required by having to make it out of "Trylon".   Accordingly I was not impressed, and frankly resented their unrepetent steal of the Tarpon.

Now I've not tested the P130 and don't intend to.  As Phoenix puts it "The sporty Phoenix 130 evolved from our popular 140 design to provide even grater versatility.".  The spelling error is theirs, lol.

A good look and side-to-side comparison reveals that the 130 truly is a shorter version of the 140.  Accordingly it is likely to exhibit many of the same faults.  If you want to know what these are check my P140 vs T140 comparison...

ps. Forgive me but you might consider the Disco at just 4 lb more (and $300 less) or the Tempo at a 9 lb difference (and $200 lesst).  Both of these are superior designs.  The Disco has been well reviewed and will yak the scuppers off the P130...
