For those who haven't discovered it, the Firefox browser offers a more convenient way to view this forum than Internet Explorer. It's free. The main advantage is tabbed browsing, so when clicking on links to messages you can have them open in a separate tab in the same browser window. It's similar to opening a link in a new window, but faster and easier to switch between tabs. It works nice for search engines as well. It comes with a feature that lets you import all your favorites from IE.

Not all websites support it, especially secure government and financial sites, so you still need IE from time to time.

Capn's Note:  Thanks, good idea.  FYI, Netscape also uses the "tabbed" concept, which is SO much easier and useful

Nice idea-but, I don't think it's as secure as MS Explorer. Maybe, that's why some of those other entities you mention don't use it.

Don't all of you get too excited just yet.  The last version of Firefox, 1.0.1, was released not as an update but as a patch for a number of serious security holes.

They are very vulnerable and ripe for an attack as IE and AOL get tougher and tougher to hack.  Right now they are only safe because no one is targeting them yet.

That will change.

Actually, the reason not all sites support Firefox is more because each browser has its own implementation of Javascript, java and some other features, frequently forcing web developers to create a different version of each page based on which browser is being used. As such, they usually just make one for IE and one for Netscape, which is the core AOL browser these days. I agree Firefox is not any more secure, it's just less likely to be targeted due to fewer users. (For a nice discussion, see Fred Langa's article.) I'm pretty sure tabbed browsing will be a feature in IE7, making this feature a moot distiction.
