"Canoes"?
"Step children"??
More like kayaks are the grand children considering canoes have been around since man fisrt discovered that logs could float.
At the very most, we're close cousins.
I must say that the more I look around, and become involved in this sport, the more deversity I see in canoe designs. More than I ever knew would have existed.
I would dare say that there are as many canoe designs out there, specialty canoes, as there are kayak designs.
The Bell company really caught my attention.

Tanner ; I do have to agree with you ,lots of neat designs out there for each respective craft.I'm fishing an old Mohawk now but I've got my eye on a Wenonah solo .Probably going to swing for a Scupper TW first though.

Have to second blindhog's suggestion, I've been looking into canoes more and more. We were thinking about getting a tandem so we could take our daughter out. Now that she's more active we think a canoe might be better though.

This is a fine suggestion.  Either of you interested in being moderator if I set up a section?

I also have a canoe--an Old Town Osprey 155.  Rigged it with a 4 hp Evinrude, mostly so I could take out friends and relatives who don't paddle.  Also, it has a 950 lb carrying capacity!

Without the motors, I think canoe drivers would be worthy members of this club.  They have a lot of potential for tricking out into great fishing machines.  I've seen them with sponsons and poling platforms that looked very interesting.

We should consider them.
