Hello All, my name is Luis, I am a resident of Port Charlotte,Fl.
I paddle an Ocean Prowler and fish as much as wheather and work allows.

I would like to welcome all FLYC members  and quests to this new section of our forum.

I will post fishing/ paddling reports from my area and encourage all members and guests to join me in sharing your experiences, plan new paddling trips to this vast and wonderful kayaking paradise. I will try and help everyone with any information  I can.

Again welcome and lets get out there and enjoy our sport.

Hey Lou....Glad to see you on the site!
I am getting an itch to fish your way again. Heard the Laishley Marine is putting on a Paddle only fishing tournament next month.
Could be a good excuse to do some great fishing!
I am sure things are starting to heat up over there.
take care.

Hey Mr. Lou... thanks for agreeing to moderate.  We know you know your stuff way out west there, and I won't soon forget your hospitality and advice last year at the Humminbird.

If only Chef Mike and I had followed your advice a bit more closely...

Hi, LouYack--

Thanks for sharing the West Coast with us. I've had a great time everytime I've been over. Kaiaks and the Gulf Coast just seem to naturally go together.

Here's a question for you. With the multi club picnic coming up, do you have any insider insights/knowledge of the Lover's Key area,  vis-a-vis inexpensive lodging, campgrounds, fishing holes..... that might be helpful? Also, have you heard anything about the kayak only tournament that Chef Mike mentioned?

Hi Capt Jim, Chefmik, Fishunter1....Thanks for the opportunity to share with you all a little bit of the west coast.

Mike and Jim you will probably be surprised but I now work at Laishley Marine and I am running the kayak shop there as of three weeks ago.  I am having a great time talking to both experienced paddlers and newbies alike.

Some of the side benefits are that I am in constant touch with some of the best fishermen and guides is the area so the info I get is accurate and up to date.

As far as the DOA POA Tourney, I wont be able to fish it cause I am on the tounament committee,  but I will  be there for the capts meeting and the final decision of the different category results as well as the awards dinner.

The rules are similar to the Extreme tourney you guys attended.... cameras issued at capts meeting with measuring tape and a small assortment of DOA lures which all contestant will use, fishing starts at safe light about 7:00 A.M. with first picture being one of rigged kayaks or canoes by waters edge, launching and fishing is allowed anywhere, there are no boundaries,  cameras  will be are turned in no later than 4:00 P.M. at Laishley marine.

Categories are Slam , most inches combined trout, redfish and snook,  largest fish in four categories...snook,red,trout and other which could be ladyfish or jacks, and most spots on reds. Slam winner gets 300.00 plus new Ocean kayak.

This tourney will be attended by Mike Nichols the head of DOA lures and will include raffles and other give aways.

I invite you all to attend , I really enjoyed it last year when you guys came over , this should be lots of fun and we would get to share some time together and swap fishing tales.

One last thing, Fishhunter1 I will try and get you some info on Lovers Key area for the upcoming get together.

Louyack

Congrats on the new job... that's terrific.  And Laishley seems like a great place to work.  I'm sure the Chef and I will be hookin up with you one day again.

As far as the tourney, send me the detail by private mail, and I'll be happy to post em on our calendar...

WELCOME ABOARD, YOURSELF, LOU!

I -and hopefully Sally -will be coming over for the South Florida Multiclub Picnic next month at Lover's Key and we'll be bringing a couple of our fleet with us. :)

We'll FINALLY get to meet up with Carol after a few near misses... and maybe see a few of the FLYC compadre pecheurs as well.  Hopefully, we'll also get to see you at the Multiclub, too!:;):

And don't be shy about posting SW Lee Island Ten Thousand Island Gasparilla Island ANY old SW Florida island events, either!

And we can ALL keep in touch all 'round the southern end of Florida from Southeast thru the Keys to the Southwest and find LOTS to do as we

Paddle on!
