Of course I'm first - aren't I always?

I long ago admired the English Midway by Dag and even posted a series of pics proclaiming the Midway "possibly the perfect plastic fishin machine".

Of course nothing suffices like a real road test.  Recently I received a personal call from Kayak Jeff who couldn't stop raving bout the Midway.  He was enroute to South Florida with the first three Midways in America, and promised me the first ride and review.

Both accomplished, but the flu intervened with the real work involved in creating and posting a competent review.  I finally turned the corner and couldn't wait to get it up. Here's the link to my review of this long awaited plastic design:

The link to the Midway review is about 2/3 down the page, and is entitled "Capn reviews the first Midway in America". Bargemonkeys, eat yer simian hearts out...

Cap'n,

I went, stopped, and looked at Kayak Jeffs at the yet to be named new RTM kayak, which looks very similar to teh old DAG Mid-Way.

Perhaps a nice recreational paddling kayak, but a fishing machine I don't think so. While it may paddle great, its longer yet narrower than the Disco which makes it quite a tight fit for an old geezer like myself, and the area some reference as a tank well is totally useless for anything except maybe my 1 gallon thermos.

I think I'll be keeping my old school Scupper-Pro

It is exactly the old Dag Mid-Way (which was spelled with a dash, as they wanted to promote that it was mid-way between a SOT and SIK).  RTM bought em out and kept the design, tweaked it.

It is longer, but it is not narrower.  It is signficantly fuller, especially toward the ends which gives the RTM Midway (no dash) a lot more volume/storage and weight bearing capacity than the Disco.  It also has less rocker and a number of fantastic safety features which, sadly, most yakfishers seem not to worry about.

Until their Hobie cracks and starts sinking, lol.

You seem to have a problem with the tankwell, but I can assure you I have no problems carrying my customized cooler - which is plenty roomy and trolls two rods to boot...

BTW, your/my Pro both have sensible curved wells, and this cooler fits well in it, as well as in my Disco and in the new Midway.  This is really not an issue for even the minimally creative. Proper strapping will keep the cooler secure and level I can assure you.

The cooler above is made from the common red Igloo and it will fit easily in any tankwell, even on flat back decks.  The only addition to this old pic is that I now recommend drilling two holes on each side for SS eyelets as attachment points.

Take care, Krash....

To each their own opinion, which are like xxxxholes everybodys got one.

MPO is still that is a very crappy design of a tank well for a fishing kayak.

Capn's Note:  Actually some of my patients no longer have one, and must do their business via a colostomy bag.  Fortunately Mr. Krash still has his, as well as a strangely related personal opinion.  And apparently an anal fixation, lol...
