Right on Santy. I led off that article ("Meet the Fokkers") by stating "Are all these alpha-posters dummies? Of course not (just most of em). But you'll figure it out....
I can see you have - along with the great majority of other rational posters. Keen's article makes a great argument for active and expert moderation, sadly lacking. Accordingly, KFS - and many other similar websites - have been taken over by the monkeys.
ps. For those who want to catch up, please refer to the first post or two in this series for the links.
pss. the premier mega alpha-monkey thread I mentioned before (which was almost 1300 posts, 63 pages and over 16,000 views less than two months ago) is now up to 97 pages, 1932 posts and over 26,300 views. This single thread, which started over 5 months ago, is still going strong, and is still dominated by a handful of posters who continue to aimlessly spew forth. |
The biggest problem with KFS from this sites perspective is the lack of dedicated paddlers on the site. The original crew were fisher folks with limited interest in paddling. They have mostly moved on (or over) and sold it off to a retailer who's focus is, well, retailing.
I doubt the majority of folks who view the board have any real design or paddling knowledge, but there are a few. Most are there to connect their fishing interests with a new vehicle to get to the fish.
But lots of folks read it, so it would be a pity to leave them to the lowest common denominators. If you have expertise, bring it over.
