Spent the early part of 8/5/06 at Flamingo. Seems to be a twice a month event.

The weather and the fishing was scorching hot. Clear skies 'till noon. I met my friend Reelrush and new fishing buddy Kneedeep, both from the KFS.com site.

Since the ramp to the bay is still closed, we saw no powerboats within a mile or two of where we fished and all was quiet. Kneedeep was first up with a hard fighting jack. Welcome to the Derelicts

The rest of the morning consisted of trout, hooked but missed tarpon in the 30lb to 50lb range, a bunch of followers (might have been reds) and the ever-present sea-kitties.

Right at high tide the bait was busting all over the soon to be bare sandy flats east of the channel out of the marina. I just had to investagate. It seems that a group of small sharks was so intent on reducing the baitfish population, they didn't appear concerned with me and once even tried to get between my yak and the sandy bottom.

Fun was had by all.

My contribution to the shark snack bar

Great Report Bruce - am going to have to catch a pass from the wife and meet up with you for one of those.  Looks like you have been doing well out there lately ! :)

I'm actually happy with the bayside ramp closed! For the last 3 trips made, there was never a power boat within a mile or 2 of us. I'm sure this has relieved the fishing pressure in the area. We launch from the area that was the primitive camping area to the left of the entrance to the main campground. There use to be an amphitheater in this area, too.

I believe you could launch closer to Bradley Key inside the main campground since only the brave or truely stupid would consider camping there this time of year.

Lots of bait=lots of predators. Tides don't even seem to matter, as long as the water is moving. I do like the couple hours before and after a strong high tide best.
