Here's some pix and a vid from West Lake Sept. 9 2007.

Finally met up with Tuna and Krash. It wasn't a good fish day but both these gentlemen turned out to be fine, upstanding young men. They are not total lunatics as I had feared.

The three big events of the day were Krash finding an excellent new shortcut thru the mangroves, Tuna hooking my bow rigging after yanking his line out of the trees and just missing a lightning storm.

Great meeting fishhead and tuna.. that vid. setup is pretty sweet ya got there fishhead.

Had a nice easy morning paddle, I went, paddled, cast, explored and confirmed my initial thoughts, Hwd. West lake is a nice place to paddle, but its not the best fishing spot sunny South Florida has to offer.

Report from friends who went south to B-Bay is that my thoughts about the east winds were correct.

see ya'll next time...

This weeks trip...

Convoy Point, Saturday morningg, 07:00

If ya wants to join.. its a just under an hour fomr Cooper City,
South on the T-pike to Speedway Blvd. exit (exit 6 I think) its the 2nd exit after the Cutler Ridge toll booth, Speedway to 328th take a  Left. If you hit the speedway you went to far.. 5 minutes, through the 4 way stop, canal on your left, when you go over a canal take the fork to the Left and into Convoy Point, gates open at 7, if ya get there early the skeeters and noseeums will get ya so don't get out of the car.
If you go straight you go into Homestead Bayfront park, $4.00 for kayaks, ask where Convoy & Biscayne Nat. PArk office is, turn arond and go back out.

I'll be tossing all arti's.. looking for cudas.

krash .. lemme know how it went ... I would have gone with you in a heartbeat but I didn't pick up the post, I was probably asleep when you posted.

Weather permitting, I'm just gonna go down there next Friday or Saturday. I'll use your directions.

Is there anything else I should know about that area before trying it alone?

Krash, Tuna, Critter ... if you're free next weekend and you wanna hook up down there let me know.

Never get out of the boat.

You wern't sleepin there was a football game in yer backyard.

My last minute decisions are usually made at like between 8-10pm on Fridays.

Next weekend I'll be out fishing a club tourney, (stinkpots), inshore up at Jensen bch.

Follow the road around, you'll come to a parking lot. I usually pull into a handicap space to offload, then park. You'll find a pvc ladder like thing on the ground next to teh rental yak/canoes to slip your yak into the water on.

Launch, paddle follow the shorelines a couple hundred feet, fish around the 2 islands, Its shalow only a couple feet deep in there.

Take your favorite top-water bait, use a leader, move it fast and noisy, you'll bet all the cudas you care to catch. Move out, say 300 yards from shore, you'll find Trout in the grass flats in 4 to 6' of water.
On the other rod use some soft plastics for the Trout.
