Hi.  I'm leaving St. Louis on Friday for about ten days off fly-fishing from my yak in FLA and had some questions I wanted to run by some vets.  I'm not looking for any hotspots, etc. just some general tips.  Does that canal just outside of ENP have peacocks?  I've never caught a peacock and would love to.  Can you launch there?   Do any of you fish Buttonwood Canal?  Or are the power boats too much of a hassle?  Is the creek from Coot Bay Pond to Coot Bay open?  How long does it take to get from there to Mud Lake?  Lots more, but I'll cut it off there.  Thanks for any and all answers.  Steve

Steve,
I don't think Capt. Jimbo will mind if I post a link, this site,

http://kfs.infopop.cc/groupee/forums/a/frm/f/6786086413

is very active with info about the area you will be in. Particularly, Lunasea, a local charactor and fisherman that fishes somewhere around there all the time. Ask your questions, and I have no doubt that you will be invited to fish with the "derelicts"

Steve there are Peacocks in the canal just outside the park.
The mouth of Buttonwood is ok to fish but be wary ,very wary.
The creek from Coot bay pond into Coot bay is open as is the creek from Coot bay pond into Mud lake.
The paddle is just under an hour from the pond to the entrance to Mud.
Don't overlook fishing Coot bay.
I believe there is a small county park just outside the entrance to ENP you should be able to put in there.

Good luck

Dave

Let us know how you do

FuzzyB--Thanks.  I've been lurking and bothering that board also (as kluff).  I'm hoping to meet up with LunaSea and follow some of the Flamingo Derlelict Gang around West Lake.

Dave--Thanks for the full run down on things.  I might give the peacocks a shot in the evening if I head to EC for some dinner.  Coot Bay has been my main target because it's easy in and out, short paddle and not too exposed.  Can't say I've done that well but I'm learning.  There were a couple of reports making Buttonwood sound interesting but as an inexperienced paddler I will play it cautious.  Mud Bay could be my first "big" paddle, along with Snake Bight.

Thanks again, guys.   Steve

Steve the peacocks are much better during daylight hours.
They are daylight feeders and shut down in the evening and at night.

Dave,  Thanks for saving me a fruitless evening!  I'll give it a shot on my travel day from Collier-Seminole to ENP.  I like to hit the Tamiami for a while on the way over.  Steve

Hey Steve,

It's Ken (from the element board). Contact me off the boards. I'm going down to the keys next Friday - Monday (17 - 20). Maybe we can arrange a get together. Friday I was planning on hitting the upper keys areas and there definite peacock spots close to there. Yes, the canal outside the park has them! Then we can also get pics of both elements with kayaks on top of them!! :p
