I use that bike trail as well, usually early sunday mornings. The last couple of times I noticed a couple of gators getting a little closer to my yak then I like, especially when I catch a fish, I think there trying to get a free meal. For the most part when you get real close they get spooked.

Has anyone ever experianced or heard of an aligator attack on a yak? (nice rhyme)

Variable, I am 6' and 185 and the PFD is snug on me....May not be a match.  Also I have snuck up ( Accidentally ) on  a few gators out there and it is quite a pissa when they explode in the water to get away....especially when they do not realize you are there.  I have had a few approach the yak for a look-see ( 20 feet away or so ) But once you make any movements they usually split.   I have never seen any make any aggressive movements or even sounds towards the yak or boat even in mating season going back many years.

Also BTW, I have a Penn 650 I usually use for Surfcasting that I am looking to match up on a Hvy action 7 Footer for use around the closed Pompano and Dania Piers for some speedier / toothier critters....Let me know if you find anything promising in your search to match your 550.

Cookinman, I found a 6'6 Ugly Stick custom at the Sports Authority. After they took 25% off the price (I had a coupon), I ended up paying $50 bucks for it.

Variable, if you go to kayakfishingstuff.com you can find lots of PFD's just for fishing, also you can check out water-play.com They didn't have that many when I was there last week, but they do stock a good amount of gear for yaks. Bass Pro has everything but good seats. Good luck.
