Hello, all! I'm writing from Rifle, CO. The wife has a conference in Ft. Lauderdale in July 08. She was gracious enough to invite me to come along. Found this forum when researching the fishing possibilities there. My wife has shown a great interest in getting a Kayak, so I would love to get her out on one and let her try it. Ya see, when she gets her yak, I can get mine!!! Anyway, it's been a while since I had to rinse the saltwater off my rigs, so I'm anxious to get out there and do some fishing. Here are my basic questions to get things started:
1. Is there a shop that rents kayaks, and by that, kayaks rigged for fishing?
2. What rod and reel setups would I want to get? Spinning, baitcasting? Rod length and action? All that good stuff. That includes from the surf, pier, and kayak.
I have one 8wt flyrod set up for saltwater, that's it. So let me practice my lines for the wife: "Darn it, Honey, I'm going to have to go to the tackle store when we get there and buy what we need to go fishing (the best stuff - whatever you all tell me I need. Come on, don't be cheap). I sure hate going to tackle stores, Honey, and spending all that money, don't you? But we do want to go fishing while we're at your conference, right, Hon?" Think I have a chance?
3. Which leads to the next ?, what fishing can I do on the beaches of Ft. Lauderdale? Or is it all from fishing piers?
4. Most Important: Would anyone like to adopt us for the week while we are there and show us the ropes of fishing from a kayak? Anykind of fishing, for that matter! I'd be glad to buy the beer and the bait!
Thanks to all and look forward to hearing from you. What a great forum! [B]
