Not to worry - it's only a middle-class recession...

Juxtaposition:

1.  The Stuart Boat Show is going on, but less a number of dealers who went out of business, and despite the fact that boats aren't selling.  The dealers are attending - not cause they expect to make sales - but because they are afraid not to.

2.  The London Boat Show just unveiled the new 32 M, available for a mere $12 million...

Alongside a dining room and other open-plan living areas, there’s sprawling space – enough to accommodate 10 guests plus crew – and each of the five en suite bedrooms boasts a flat-screen television and Bose entertainment system. After meeting for sundowner cocktails in the saloon, guests can stroll through sliding glass doors onto a teak-laid aft deck, and should they get bored, there are two jet skis stored in a rear garage for a bit of maritime exploring.

A hot tub is optional, as is a stabilising system that will keep the boat steady while at rest and ensure that your vintage Bolly won’t get too shaken up

And just what are the prospects for this luxury show?  Fabulous - simply fabulous - according to the promoters.

"The economic forecast may be gloomy but prospects in the yacht market are, well, buoyant. In 2006 the total turnover of the UK leisure and small commercial marine industry was £2.8 billion, and it is expected that this will be surpassed by figures from 2007, to be announced next week by the British Marine Federation’s annual report."

It sure is reassuring to know that the recession won't affect all of us (just the 95% who don't control the world's wealth).  And keep in mind you won't be able to float a toothpick in the trickledown from these gentlemen...
