The idea came to me as I was driving down I 75 a day or three after Hurricane Wilma.

I noticed something very peculiar about the way people were driving. Most of them seemed to be driving conservatively. By conservatively I mean, actually doing the speed limit or less. Even off the highway hardly anyone was engaging in, what I call, "race you to the next red light". When someone would drive aggressively or speed by I even received knowing looks from other motorists that entailed "look at that jerk".

I was astonished by this new behavior of the South Florida Motorist and wondered, "Why had this change occurred?"

Simple ... it was a real pain in the butt to get gas. Everyone slowed down in order to conserve fuel and avoid the lines at the few filling stations that were actually open for business.

Here's how to start saving the Planet, defeat terrorism and save a ton of money.

Slow the Fuel Pumps down.

Ever pull into a station where the pumps were really slow and you were in a hurry? Imagine if all of them were like that all the time. I mentioned this idea of mine to a friend and he said to me "yeah I was at a station like that this morning, I left.. It would have taken me five minutes to fill up".... Five minutes!

Americans will happily pay anything for a gallon of fuel but inconvenience them and look out ...

All this would cost nothing extra. I'm sure we have a Department of Weights and Measures or something like that in this state.

I'm not suggesting we slow the flow to a dribble but we could incrementally start to turn down the gusher. It would work like a charm. I'm not going to go into all the other wonderful things that would start to happen if this plan were implemented. But think about it ...

This is probably not a new idea but I came by it honestly so I will take all the credit. If you think it's a dumb idea .... Try to poke a hole in it.. Go ahead .. I dare you.

Never get out of the boat.

No holes to poke here, I remember the same thing.

Add another dollar or two tax per gallon to all fuels and the market and the marketplace will both prosper as people slow down, and buy sensibly sized and performing new generation vehicles as exciting new markets for alternative power and equipment create positive new growth.

Solar, wind, tide, electric, battery and more... bring it on!

Every one cent increase in the federal gas tax adds 1 billion to the treasury.  A higher gas tax would persuade people to buy smaller vehicles, which would add less pollution, less traffic congestion,  and fewer and less destructive accidents.  It would also give entrepreneurs more of an incentive to develop alternative vehicles and fuel.

Tuna ,, someone has to work on Fisher Island ... lol.

And you don't need to raise the tax ... we will pay it like the sheep we are. All you have to do is inconvenience everyone at the pump. Not only will you immediately start conserving but you will see an effect on peoples driving habits.

The price of fuel will drop like a stone when the ready supply increases from the "Slow the Flow" campaign.

That's my catchy new buzzwords and slogan ... like it?
