The details for the "Fourth" annual Everglades Paddle-in Feb 23, 2008 are finally available at http://www.evergladeskayakfishing.com/ekf-events.htm This is Captain Wright's annual event.

This year we will be launching from the ranger station at Everglades City and Paddling to Indian Key. There were about 160-170 kayaks last year. Go to the website and RSVP if you plan on attending. There are 2 long open-water stretches with this paddle, so the web site is correct that this should not be attempted with a short, slow kayak. Last year the paddle back was 4 miles with a 15-18 mph headwind. Snook season doesn't open in the Everglades until March 1, but since I never catch them it doesn't actually affect me.

(Capn's Note: Roger, thanks for the post. Capt Wright's events are well attended and much enjoyed. Do take note that Disco owners will have no trouble with winds or currents, lol...)

I'll be there.  Hope to be there around 6:30. I don't know of any other choice on launch. Other than  Along the causeway between choco and evergladecity but that adds more distance to paddle.I had a few spots to fish on the other route, caught my limit of trout 2 years in a row.

Looks good on a map after you cross choco bay and enter canals.

Was a good day for a paddle, not a good day of fishing.
Launched early saw RDS/bugdoc in the parking lot, but lost him in the bay crossing.

Took a different path than all others, had some inside creeks to myself for the 1st half of the trip out, Got into some small Snook early that were eager to play smack the top-water trebble hooks.

Met up with critterdog on the beach landing.

Great lunch on Idian Key, thanks to the Capt'ns supporting staff Ms. Vickie and the Chowder ladies.

No Disco's or Dorados.

I had the pleasure of meeting Terry & Linzy, met a few new faces from the other side as the PF gang was represented well. Somehow missed meeting JonS, and was told Heywood got sidetracked, while yaknitup had another gig. Also met fishhunter1 an independant yak fisher in a blue Drifter, and a couple yak fly fisher-persons.

There were 3 yaks out ther rigged with trolling motors, but they kind of stayed in an area of their own.

After lunch decided to paddle against the wind and current to the outside, convinced by RDS/bugdoc that the Trout were out there and I could pick up the 2nd third of a slam. RDS got a trout by accident while trolling for lday fish on the way out to the area.

Shortly after 1 we decided that with only about 2 hours of tidal flow in out favor to head back, plugged shorelines and bumped the bottom with jigs to no avail, mad it back to the bay just before the tide change. That current rips through IKP I was making 6mph on the gps for a few, at one point I saw a porpise just sitting behind a channel marker waiting for the current to bring him a meal.

Had a good time again, Thanks Capt. Charles Wright for putting it together.
