You're going fishin first thing in the morning and you need to re-spool with fresh line.
What brand of line do you reach for?

I finally respooled my stradic with 20# powerpro. It took a little time to get used to it, but now I love it! It spools on clean with the reel and casts a mile.
Be sure to make a long cast about every 5 throws and this will help it respool clean on the reel. As long as you do not get any wind knots, its outrageous. Be careful when you tie your knots.

I just put Powerpro on my Stradic. I used the #10. Casts very well. Incredibly strong and stretch-free. Can develop some twist if I'm not paying attention. Similiar to Firewire but less annoying idiocycrasies.

Mike had a good point on doing the long cast occasionally to get out loops and uneven winds.

I put Fireline on my freshwater baitcaster and I love it. Really great for ripping baits back out of the garden when you are faced with limited leverage while seated in a yak.
Haven't tried any of the new super braids in salt yet.
Maybe it's time?

May be old fashioned but my big move was to Stren Hi Impact high viz green, from Ande Backcountry blue.

I did find the Stren seemed to cast further. One of these days I may try one of the lower priced no-stretch lines...

But do tell, I read that one must close the bail manually and do an occasional long cast, tight-line retrieve to reset the line from time to time. Also, do you use a mono base, and if so how much base and how much superline?

Capt, I put about 100 ft of mono and tie up the power pro to that. You cannot tie braid directly to spool as it will spin. the long casts are not a bother nor the closing of the bail...you do that most of the time anyway when you are casting to mangroves.
I have alot less aggravation with this line compared to mono. Great stuff.
Also, there is another braid that is a bit cheaper than powerpro, its called Tuffline...heard its just as good. give it a try Capt.

When I spooled up my bait caster, I used no backing because the spool design allowed it to grip. (I tired like heck to get it to slip with just a few wraps, it didn't so I spooled fully with Fireline)
On the babysmooth spools, I can see where a backing would be needed.
Using a superbraid does require that you learn a few special knots for leader and lures if tying direct.
Another tip used is to apply a dot of superglue to your knot.
A little added insurance against knot slippage.

I have been using Tuf Line XP 15# with backing for about 4 months now. In my opion the best braid.
For you Power Pro guys just a little info... Western Filament makes it...quess who they private label for??

Can you say Power Pro!!

Less expensive and rounder. Close to zero stretch. And if you use circle hooks, a killer!!

Casts a mile and here's a tip, at the end of the season just reverse the spool for never been used line !!!

I've spooled two different reels--one with Power Pro and one with Tuffline--virtually the same line at half the cost. Both work great and the additional casting distance is significant if not down right amazing.

Very strong and knots need to be secure. I still use the uni-knot for everything and it has never cost me a fish.

But, what's this about closing the bail manually? I don't. Why would you have to do that?

and not because I went againt popular instructions, but because I have been casting with a spinner since I was 6.

So as you might know my first cast was a non-thought thing. and when I was half way through the day I remembered.... but like you I thought why?

I use uni to uni for leader as well but I have also used a triple surgeons as well with the same results.

When you start using braid it is a good idea to cast a bunch of practice casts. Why? Well you need to know your distance cause its all together different distance than mono. Braid strong but it wont pull a mangrove out
