There has been discussion about having more frequent get togethers.
How about we get some suggestions going and generate some interest.
Some thoughts:
- Jonathan Dickinson St. Park (Jupiter)
- Matheson Hammock
- Long Key St. Park
These are some neat places to Kayak, Fish, BBQ. Lets go summers coming soon.

I concur with all three of those.

In addition I might throw in:

Overnights (including Long Key?)

- Lower Keys
- Sanibel
- Ft. Myers
- The goon

Day Trips

- MacArthur
- Oleta
- Pennekamp (again)

More as I think of them

I think for the moment probably Matheson Hammock would be a good choice. Oleta is also an option.

Bottom line: we need to get together and get wet and hungry. Some of us can actually cook a bit. One is a recognized pro.

Others might only fancy themselves as such, but usually the food is still good.

A few have shown the ability to fish a bit. Not many, granted but we might be able to put some food on the table.

Bottom Line: WHO WANTS A YAK IN?

If it is a go let us know and we will look at the attendance and set a date. If no one answers then it's dead on the vine.

Don, in reference to the "Goon" that is the Mosquito Lagoon. A good 4 hour drive but when there....Worth it! Redfish Central!!!!
We should start with Local areas for some day gigs and plan for something in the summer for a big day trip or overnighter.

I'm in (assuming external factors permit)!

Had some thoughts about other places (due to the crowds at matheson)

crandon park - (hear there might be a bonefish or two there)
black point - (heard there might be bonefish there too)
convoy point/homestead bayfront - Frank & I have done this park (convoy point side). I like it and I've paddled it a few times. A little lighter on the crowds, nice facilities & visitor center. I've seen signs of bones, definitely fish there: cudas, jacks, rumors of redfish. Nice combo of environments: grass flats, mud flats, mangroves, nice dark mangrove creeks crawling with crabs, spoil islands, the mowry canal dumps there, deep holes, turkey point outflow (crocs). Also caught my first yak fish there (cuda) on fly.

Baynanza is here again this year.

YOUR turn to do a “good turn”

–for Biscayne Bay! There’s lots of sites where you can get out there and help out around the Bay and help clean it up for half a day. You’ll get a T-shirt and water for helping and doing what we ALL oughta!

for lots of good information –there’s all sorts of sites all up & down the Bay so get out there, have fun & help clean up as you paddle away.

This could be one 'take' on a Yak-In... Sort of the service club/public service group gathering approach. It wouldn't exactly be fishing -well, not in the AM, but we could hang after a midday picnic and fish the sunset witching hour as an added or extending event.

I'll be out there to help out -how about you? Maybe we can do it as a group...???

Long Key, Mosquito Lagoon, West Coast all sound great. As for the Lower Keys, I had the opportunity to meet Bill Keogh down in Key Largo in Feb. -- his book on paddling makes the Keys sound like one huge candy store for kaiak/fishing/nature, etc. Its all good.

I really do like the Baynanza idea, and will do my best to get into that next week. Thanks for the heads up, Frank!

Fish you got that one right. Bill Keogh is a super guy, multitalented published photographer and naturalist, plus his business guiding and yak nature tours.

Have visited his camp near No Name Key, which btw would be a super location.

That loud crick you heard was my neck snapping around sharply. Youve BEEN to this fishing camp??? Details, PLEEEZE, details! I was just reading about it a couple of days ago-- literally-- and making mental plans to e-mail/call Bill to see about a trip. I was really impressed with him when we talked, plus from Marine Science and Language standpoints (2 of my loves), what he says and how he says it are pretty cool. :cool:

I'm eagerly awaiting your next Yak-in, I really enjoyed the first. (I don't think I can do April 24-25 or May1, so I hope it's not then!)

With the 2nd Yak-In kicking off next weekend, any thoughts on a little contest?

I was thinking that a "Biggest Fish" contest with those who want to participate kicking in say $5.00 each with the top 3 places splitting the pot 60/30/10%

Add some simple rules and it might be fun!

Anyone interested?
