I DON'T KNOW, JIM -I GUESS I'M WITH DON & RDS ON THIS ONE...
I contribute about as much as anyone on this board, and I don't really feel like a "giver" -or better yet, I don't feel like I'm being "taken advanatge of" by a group of lurkers, or as you say, 'takers'...
I guess I just don't see them as 'takers' in a negative sense -they're visitors in my book, and good for them, and good for the site. Visitors mean hits, and that's good, whether or not they stick around and join us or not.
And don't forget, too, that there are many out there in cyberspace who've learned not to trust many aspects of the web, and who don't want to get as involved as we'd like them to in becoming a part of our little community. They are fearful of giving out personal informatiom, fearful of revealing themselves, fearful of rapidlyescalating identity theft perhaps, fearful of repercussions should one of us FLYC-ers turn out to not be the nice yakanglers we outwardly seem to be...
I mean, look at some of the boards we all know -even when folks do ID themselves, in many cases it's not real helpful -as in, where do you live? "Florida". Where do you like to paddle? "North Carolina"... Just goes to illustrate a reluctance to share possibly sensitive info, which also sort of can been seen as leading to a 'read but don't get involved' perspective...
So I guess what I'm saying is I don't think your clubhouse will honestly serve much of a purpose, Jim, oher than maybe becoming an extended personal message center for those of us in on the secret handshake.
If someone wants to read something I wrote -let'em! If they get something good or useful 0r just plain enjoyable out of something I wrote, good for them! And I feel good about it -well, even more to the point, I do NOT feel BAD about it -as well, even if not told...
But as someone else noted -it's more or less your board as chief cook, bottle washer, and The Godfisher & Board Administrator .
That said, thanks for asking for our input!
I truly think it's a fine place just the way it is.
It's a great site to spend time and swap lies and tell tall tales and give -and yes, get! -good information to help us all do better as we
